Pennsy, a privately held company established in 1984, is based in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Pennsy´s products are known throughout the industry to increase component life and freight car performance. The products and solutions we develop help meet the railroad industry's continuing need to improve operational performance and reduce maintenance costs.
Today, there are approximately 1.5 million freight cars in operation throughout North America. Our products can be used in new or retrofit applications on every one of them.
What Guides Us
Ever since Pennsy began developing its innovative product line, its operations have been guided by a core set of values.
SAFETY. Product safety is our greatest concern. We've always employed strict quality controls when it comes to our design and manufacturing. Pennsy collaborates with engineering departments from major car builders and railroads around the country that evaluate our designs at an early stage.
Since 1984, many of our products have been tested and approved by the AAR. We also run regular test programs at both the TTCI and NRC.
CUSTOMER FOCUS. Our customers drive our operation. Pennsy has worked with every major railroad operating in North America to help freight car owners reduce the cost of ownership while improving overall performance. One way to accomplish this is by using the best materials, not necessarily the cheapest.
Our business has grown over the last two decades because we develop effective solutions that meet the needs of our customers. We've applied the solutions we've developed here to freight car fleets in Australia, Brazil, South Africa, and Finland.
PROGRESSIVE OUTLOOK. We believe that to be effective we need to watch other industry sectors for new developments relevant to the railroad industry. Occasionally, we'll partner with outside experts to offer the best in product development.
Over the years, Pennsy has optimized the solutions by taking advantage of Nylons & Urethanes, cast and forged metals, and composites and ceramic coatings. We've attained numerous patents to protect our intellectual property.
