Pennsy Corporation

Pennsy excels in solving engineering problems. We've worked closely with engineering divisions of major railroads and freight car builders for numerous years. Perhaps that's because we understand problems from both an engineering and economic perspective. These are the steps we follow to develop our products.

R&D

Before thinking about solutions our engineers undertake a thorough analysis of the premature wear or poor performance of the component and the system within which it operates. This analysis helps to identify not only the cause of the underlying problem but also defines some of the performance characteristics any improved solution must meet.

Once the problem has been thoroughly understood our engineering team develops a short list of feasible designs and develop prototypes for the most promising.

From this information we can develop a list of feasible designs and develop prototypes for the most promising solutions.

Design

The design process begins when the following procedures take place with the prototypes:

  • They are evaluated by Customer and Manufacturing Teams
  • One solution is chosen to take to the design stage
  • Finite Element Analysis is applied to assess the structural performance
  • The chosen prototype is perfected to meet both manufacturing and cost parameters

Testing

We conduct extensive laboratory testing to meet our high standards as well as those of the AAR, and to:

  • Better understand the design characteristics of our prototype
  • Provide additional input for evaluating and developing final design criteria
  • Ensure the success of the products being tested

Manufacturing

Pennsy searches worldwide to find the best materials and manufacturing capabilities to meet the needs of our customers. We develop long term affiliations with domestic manufacturers specializing in polymer and metallic technologies. These manufacturers often become an integral part of our design team.
